During Leeds for Carers’ Week 2017, which runs from 12th – 18th June, people, services and businesses will come together to support carers and celebrate the vital contribution they make.
“This is a key time to raise awareness of the crucial role of carers, and to highlight of the breadth of support available from Carers Leeds”, said Val Hewison, Chief Executive at Carers Leeds. “Offering general and specialist carer support all year round, we have a dedicated team which gives timely information, advice and support to carers throughout the city. This Carers’ Week we hope to reach even more carers through an extensive programme of events throughout the city.”
On Saturday 17th June, Carers Leeds will host a ‘Great Get Together’ in memory of Jo Cox MP to bring people together, and show support for all carers throughout the communities of Leeds. The Carers Leeds team is encouraging everyone in Leeds to join them on Briggate, outside Debenhams.
The eight charities driving Carers’ Week are calling on individuals, services and organisations across the country to build Carer Friendly Communities – places where carers are supported to look after their loved ones well, while being recognised as individuals with needs of their own.
“Carers Week is a fantastic way to celebrate the vital contribution made by the 6.5 million people in the UK who care for a disabled, older or ill family member or friend”, said Heléna Herklots CBE, on behalf of Carers Week. “Caring can be a rewarding experience but without the right support many carers find themselves facing financial hardship, ill-health, emotional stress, relationship breakdown and isolation.
“It’s fantastic to see so many events taking place across the country to support local carers. We hope that through these events; individuals, organisations and services will be able to see just what a positive difference they can make to the lives of carers.”
Thousands of events are taking place across the country this week, and thousands of people have already pledged their support for carers online. To find out more about events in Leeds visit http://www.carersleeds.org.uk/events/
