Hull company Bellow Theatre are coming to Stage@Leeds fresh from their success at Edinburgh Fringe with their show Bare Skin On Briny Waters, October 3rd-4th.
Renowned for intimate, moving DIY aesthetics and telling brave and stirring female-centric stories, Bellow Theatre’s play explores survival and escape in forgotten seaside towns, with a pair of young women struggling to keep their heads above water. The show features live original folk music and is designed by Naomi Kuyck-Cohen with lighting design from Will Monks.
‘We’re so excited to bring this piece to Stage@Leeds,” said Maureen Lennon, the company’s co-artistic director. “Its narrative is really rooted in our experiences as young northern women and we think it will really resonate with a Leeds audience. I’ve just finished an MA at the University, so I feel really connected to the city, and can’t wait to come back’.
The piece questions young women’s place in the world. It’s about female anger, love, and the struggle for independence, and investigates how a generation promised everything can forge its own path.
